Cumbrian Way shopping parade is located in the Millbrook area on the west side of Southampton and is in the Millbrook ward.
37 – 55 (odds) Cumbrian Way was a local shopping centre built to serve the immediate neighbourhood. The site also included the local housing office.
Part of Cumbrian Way Shopping Parade, where the Headway clinic used to be, is currently being developed to provide 16 new council homes under the Local Authority New Build Scheme.
Cabinet approved the disposal of Cumbrian Way Shopping Parade to Radian Group on 11 April 2011.
Following the public exhibition on 11 October 2011, Radian Group and Drew Smith have now submitted their planning application incorporating the community’s feedback (January 2012),
The proposal is for 50 new homes and two new shops:
16 x private flats:
16 x 2 bed flats
12 x low cost home ownership:
12 x 2 bed flats
22 x affordable rent
12 x 3 bed houses
10 x 2 bed flats
Swaythling Housing Society…. The parent company of the Group is Radian Group Limited.
Re-development of the site following demolition of the existing buildings to provide 38 x 2 bedroom flats and 12 x 3 bedroom houses within two, three and four-storey buildings and a ground floor commercial unit (Use Class A1 Retail or Use Class A3 Restaurants and Cafes) with associated car parking, landscaping and external works including alterations to the existing road (affects existing public rights of way).

Demolition is likely to take place early spring 2012 with completion of the development in April 2014.

Questions can be prepared and directed to the construction manager at each of the visits conducted throughout the year (approximately 5 visits). Pictures and notes of progress and issues should be taken.
